Powdercoating the Engine Bay

The AutoSpecialists chrome covers and dress up was getting quite tarnished in places, road salt really does nothing to help keep it in perfect condition and I have yet to see a set that isnt ruing by swirls in the chrome. Some cars dress up are quite bad in sunlight and it really annoyed me that it couldnt be polished to perfection. I decided that I would change its colour and the best way to do it (and offer good future protection) was to powdercoat it all.

I purchased an airbrush compressor, a powdercoater from ElectroStaticMagic, and made an oven from an old tool chest, two heat guns, and a thermometer.

The parts were sanded down with metal sandpaper, tarnishing the chrome pieces as much as possible. The parts were then washed in an IPA bath. Once washed they dried, then were coated with the gun.
Once coated they were hung in the oven, and heated for 14 minutes at 220°c.

The parts were done over about a week in batches, below are some of the pictures before fitting to the car. The caps that had detail were finished with enamel model paints.

I then had to re-fit them all to the car. This took ages!
